HELP MARY ANN LINDSAY!
Mary Ann Lindsay has saved
over 700 dogs from shelters and owners who couldn't keep them. She has rescued
Border Collies, Australian Shepherds, Corgis, Collies, mixes, and more! Her Petfinder website is
Inland
Northwest Rescue. She has written about rescue here.
Now Mary Ann is
battling to save one more
life - her own. Five years ago she was diagnosed with renal cancer, which
had spread to her lungs.
She has beaten the odds and her survival has been nothing less than miraculous.

Unfortunately, Mary Ann recently heard some very bad news - her tumors are growing and her prognosis is unfavorable without a new treatment, which is very expensive. It is a new class of drug which is biological rather than chemical. Medicare puts these new drugs in a special category, and does not pay for any of them until the patient has paid a certain amount out of pocket. Mary Ann's pockets are not that deep. The first treatment will cost Mary Ann $3500-$6000 before she can begin paying a co-pay of almost $200 per month. If the treatment is working, she will continue to take the drug for an indefinite period of time. Every January, she starts over paying the first payment amount! The "poster boy" for the new drug has been taking it since early 2004.
Those of us who know and love Mary Ann, and admire all she does for the dogs, want to help her with these excessive expenses. We are reaching out to the shelter, rescue and herding communities. If we can help Mary Ann, she can continue to rescue dogs.
